India GSM Subscribers Base in March 2012 – Airtel Leads ..!

Bharti Airtel tops in the new subscriber additions, added a total of 2.5 million new GSM subscribers followed by IDEA Cellular added the 2nd highest number of new subscribers with 2.01 million in March. Bharti Airtel now has more than 181 million GSM customers with a 27.22% market share.

According to the data released by COAI total 6.87 million new GSM subscribers added with 1.04% increase from previous month taking the all-India GSM cellular subscriber base to 664.08 million at the end of March 2012.

Videocon once again lost 0.25 million subscribers. The user base of Videocon stood at 5.95 million.AIRCEL also lost 0.68 million customers and its subscriber base was at 62.57 million.

Among the leading GSM Mobile Service Operators, Vodafone India added 1.02 million new customers, boosting its subscriber base 150.46 million. Uninor that lost licences in the SC’s 2G judgment, notched 1.29 million new customers. Its user base was at 42.43 million by March-end

State run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) added 0.89 million taking their subscriber base to 94.67 million. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) added 62399 new users during the month, boosting its total base to 5.93 million at the end of March ’2011.


Other Operators such as STel, Etisalat DB (Cheers Mobile) and Loop Telecom (except Loop Mobile -Mumbai) have announced shutting down of mobile services as earlier we shared on TelecomTalk and are now helping their users move to other operators through Mobile Number Portability (MNP).


Please note : COAI GSM Subscriber base does not include the Reliance Communications (Rcom) and Tata Docomo’s GSM subscriber Base (same not submitted to COAI).

MTS MiFi Pocket Router – Postpaid and Prepaid Plan Details

MTS comes up with official details of the pocket router, now available in all circles where MTS operates. MTS also announced prepaid and postpaid high speed data tariff plans for MiFi or MBlaze Mobile Wi-Fi Router.

As we told the MTS MiFi Pocket router is actually ZTE AC30 without GSM support. ZTE AC30 is powered by Qualcomm chipset MSM7625, the maximum speed it can offer is upto 3.1Mbps downlink and upto 1.8Mbps uplink.

The router is RUIM based, and supported with WiFi Standard 802.11b/g. The pocket router can offer internet connectivity upto 5 devices. The network connection provided by the router is very secure as it supports RX Diversity and Wi-Fi Security: WEP/WPA/WPA2.


The device comes with USB 2.0 high speed connectivity when connected to a PC or laptop. Supported Operating systems are Windows 7, Windows Vista(32bit or 64bit), Windows XP (SP3 or later), Mac OS(10.4 or later). There is not microSD card slot. There are 4 LED indicators – Battery; signal strength; WiFi indication; network indication.

The pocket router comes in a very handy dimension of 98.5mm × 54mm × 13.9mm and weight is just 80gm. The pocket router comes with a inside battery to offer wireless internet on the go. The battery capacity is 1500 mAh and power adapter ( 5V/700mA). Working time: About 4 hours and Standby time: About 100 hours.

MTS Launches MTalky – Fixed Wireless Phone

             MTS, CDMA Mobile service operator with over 13 million wireless customers today announced the market roll out of fixed wireless service dubbed as MTalky in India.

This latest roll out aims to provide “Home Phone” with unmatched coverage and voice clarity at affordable prices. MTS India’s MTalky Fixed Wireless phone (FWP) comes for Rs. 1200 offering a host of value-added benefits like freedom of mobility within the premises, high speed Internet access, in-built speaker, CLIP, missed call details, etc.


MTS has introduced a single rate plan which will be applicable to all potential ‘MTalky’ customers across its all circles. Customer can recharge of Rs. 495 and will get FREE 150 Minutes on net Daily valid up-to Jan 2037. The operator said that it will be a best option for any land line phone because if any subscriber recharge with annual recharge he/ she will get 100 talk time 1/2 paisa calling with 365 days tariff validity.

The launch of MTS ‘MTalky’ is backed by market research, which indicates that FWP has easily substituted the land line as the `shared’ family phone, creating more dependence, through personalization tools, which will help spur more use of the product within homes and enterprises segments.

MTS Intros MBlaze Ultra World’s First EVDO Rev B Phase 2 Network

MTS India CDMA Mobile and EVDO data service operator today created history by launching world’s first CDMA EV-DO Rev.B Phase II network in India which offers 9.8. Mbps data speed.

This announcement marks the beginning of a phased roll out, wherein the company would be launching the advanced Rev.B Phase II network in their home circle, Rajasthan.

MTS Intros MBlaze Ultra – World’s First EVDO Rev B Phase 2 Network

Jaipur is going to be first city to be covered with EVDO Rev B Phase II network, followed by top metros and other key cities across India.

MTS India will now takes a giant leap in providing a significantly enhanced customer experience while accessing streaming multimedia.To experience the full power of CDMA EV-DO Rev.B Phase II, MTS India has introduced MBlaze Ultra – a special Hi-Tech dongle providing data download speeds of 9.8 megabytes per second.

The commercial use of EV-DO Rev.B technology will greatly enhance the mobile broadband experience of MBlaze Ultra users. Compared to EV-DO Rev.B Phase I, the Phase II technology can further enhance the BTS cell capacity, spectrum efficiency and peak rate, achieving high speed rate as high as 4.9 Mbps in single frequency carrier and 9.8 Mbps in two frequency carrier bundle.

Commercially it is present in several countries across the world including Japan, Norway, Indonesia, Sweden, South Korea and Ukraine among others. However, MTS India is credited to be the first telecom company in the world to commercially launch the CDMA EV-DO Rev.B Phase II network which can support upto 4.9 Mbps on single carrier of 1.25Mhz.

To get an MBlaze connection, customers can choose from the following two options

A.The Free Device Option
-Customers just need to pay Rs. 4599 to get an MBlaze Ultra dongle for free. Additionally, they will get 1 GB data usage per month for six months.

B.Extra Usage Option
-Customers can purchase the MBlaze Ultra device for just Rs. 2499.
-Monthly rental plans have been made available starting at Rs. 629.
-As an introductory offer, all customers purchasing MBlaze Ultra in the first month of launch will get 50 percent extra usage for lifetime.
